(Ruta graveolens) Native to southern
Europe and northern Africa. Striking grey-green foliage with small yellow
flowers. Unique pungent aroma. Excellent when grown in containers.
Dried seed heads add interest to flower arrangements. Perennial in
zones 4-9, 2' tall.
10-12 weeks before last frost
Green Thumb Tip Sow seeds indoors just beneath surface of soil. Seeds need to be kept above 70°F for germination. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed in late spring. Prefers well-drained poor soil. Oil from Rue leaves may cause a photosensitive skin reaction in some. Use caution when brushing against leaves on warm sunny days.
