Item Details

Dependable and delicious, these fire engine-red peppers were given to Seed Savers Exchange by Jimmy Nardello, whose mother brought the seeds to the United States when she emigrated with her husband, Guiseppe, from the Basilicata region of Italy in 1887. One of the best peppers for frying, with a mild, spicy flavor. Productive plants are loaded with glossy-red 10"-long peppers. Plants may have to be staked. A Seed Savers Exchange staff favorite.

  • ±4,200 seeds/oz
  • Conventional
  • Very productive
  • Sweet pepper
  • Excellent frying pepper

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Roasting
  • Salsa

This pepper is: SWEET

Bell peppers are sweetest when they mature to a full red, but the crunchy green flesh is a great addition to many savory dishes. You can stuff peppers with quinoa, rice, or a mixture of cheese and beans and bake. This variety is one of the best for frying and has a delicious "roasted apple" flavor.

Roast your red peppers over a burner or under a broiler, then peel and puree with hummus or slice and add to grilled eggplant and mozzarella sandwiches with fresh basil.

Green Nardello Peppers in Avacado Oil

by

As an or d'oeurve for a party of 4, we wok fried green (immature) Jimmy Nardello Peppers in avacado oil for about 3-4 minutes w/ salt and they were wonderful ..... disappeared before our very eyes! Smooth and flavorful without bite; great finger food.

Fast growing, very flavorful

by

These are the best peppers! Sweet with mild heat. The I effect base for your chili powder!

So rewarding to grow

by

I've grown these 2 years now and love them. This last year they would NOT stop producing. I recommend to market customers for frying or for eating fresh. So sweet when red, and they turn red quickly. Try dehydrating some of these then rough grinding in your blender, then a coffee grinder for fine. Makes a sweet paprika or table seasoning. The sugar content is high, so it will clump a bit, but as problems go.....

Amazing Flavor

by

First year growing these. These are very prolific, free from defects and just keep producing. I grow about 30 types of peppers and I will grow these every year. They go great with Italian sausage or with pasta sauce or a pepper sandwich. Sweet with amazing flavor. My best tasting sweet pepper by far.

Phenomenal Pepper Producer

by

We received these seeds as a donation for our new community garden. They were easy to start, had a great germination rate (95%+), and are prolific producers. The garden participants love to harvest the peppers just before they start turning red. 10 out of 10 recommend!
