Now you too can grow this champion tomato! Bred as a processing tomato, it took top honors in the slicing division at the 2018 Seed Savers Exchange Tomato Tasting event. The University of Wisconsin developed the variety and released it in 1957. While the fruits aren’t quite as red as those of the well-known ‘Wisconsin 55’ tomato, also developed by the University of Wisconsin, they average just a bit larger.

  • All-purpose tomato is great for canning

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Sauce
  • Paste
  • Roasting
  • Canning
  • Drying
  • Freezing

Store your tomatoes at room temperature. The flavor and texture of tomatoes suffer when the fruit is chilled.

Heirloom tomatoes are bred for their flavor and simple preparation best allows that intense flavor to shine through. Tomatoes can be sliced and drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper or layer slices with basil and mozzarella for a Caprese salad.

Roasted tomatoes have a richer, concentrated flavor.

There are hundreds of salsa recipes to try and most are dramatically improved with the use of heirloom tomatoes. Tomatoes are also the main ingredient in Gazpacho, a cold soup that is perfect for summer.

Wisconsin 55 was a free trial pack you sent me for season 2020. I'm in planting zone 7A middle of NC, I tested 26 cultivars over 100 plants, unfortunately most did not survive the multiple days of heavy rain, the weeds out grew most everything. Anyways, From 6 plants in ground on 4/12 - I had the first (of all cultivars) ripe Wisconsin tomatoes on 7/3/2020, by 7/8 it had 12 ripe fruit.
Taste test - 5 star - good tomato flavor, good for salad, sandwich, canning and earliest by far to all others from 2020.
Size - wide range - small to medium large.
Volume - Production was outstanding, nearly twice all the other varieties.
Grow again - Absolutely!
