This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Baking

  • Soups

Onions compliment a number of other vegetables. They are often used in stocks and soups and pair well with bay leaves, tarragon, rosemary, thyme, cumin, and coriander.

Caramelized onions offer a rich flavor without the heat or bite of a raw onion and can be used in soups, to top pizzas, or served over squash, mushrooms, or meat dishes.

You can also use onions in jams or marmalades for savory spreads on crusty bread. Add onions to your pickle recipes or roast them with apples.

A large and handsome onion

by

First onion I’ve ever grown. It was a learning experience! The seedling need to be kept constantly moist or they dry out immediately. Out of about 18 seeds, only two were harvestable, but I blame that entirely on my inexperience. I think more consistent watering would have improved them even more. I harvested my first of these today and it’s a very large and handsome onion.

Highly recommend

Highly recommend. I can only eat sweet onions due to a health issue and had been wanting to try one suitable for northern gardens. These germinated well and I lost very few seedlings. The onions were a large size with very good flavor. From 2 packets I harvested approximately 50lbs of onions.
