Item Details

Kentucky family heirloom grown since the 1930s by three generations of James Halladay’s family. In a trial of 25 Mortgage Lifter types, Halladay’s produced the best crops of 1-2 pound pink beefsteak fruits. Exceptionally meaty and typically crack-free. Great old-fashioned tomato flavor.

  • ±11,300 seeds/oz
  • Organic
  • Pink beefsteak tomatoes
  • Indeterminate - Fruit ripens throughout the season
  • Fruits grow to 1-2 pounds
  • Meaty flesh with old-time tomato flavor
  • Typically crack-free

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Sauce
  • Roasting
  • Canning

Store your tomatoes at room temperature. The flavor and texture of tomatoes suffer when the fruit is chilled.

Heirloom tomatoes are bred for their flavor and simple preparation best allows that intense flavor to shine through. Tomatoes can be sliced and drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper or layer slices with basil and mozzarella for a Caprese salad.

Roasted tomatoes have a richer, concentrated flavor.

There are hundreds of salsa recipes to try and most are dramatically improved with the use of heirloom tomatoes. Tomatoes are also the main ingredient in Gazpacho, a cold soup that is perfect for summer.

Tons of large tomatoes

by

I picked the first of our tomatoes today. 3 of them were over a pound and the 4th was 3/4 lb. I couldn't be more pleased! Our plants are full of of tomatoes and the flavor is amazing. I'm so happy I bought these!

Huge tomatoes

Love these! My first time growing from seed and they are doing great.
I’ve gotten a couple so far that are as big as my hand!

Word of Caution

by

This tomato is delicious, large, beautiful and productive, but the skins are thinner than most tomatoes I've worked with. We found them very sensitive to puncturing. Be extra careful when handling and don't stack fruits at all during gathering. Otherwise a great tomato!
