Item Details

This historic variety, renowned for its tenderness and great flavor, was first marketed in 1864 as Texas Pole, then renamed and introduced in 1877 as Kentucky Wonder by James J. H. Gregory & Sons. Vigorous plants yield clusters of 7-10” pods that are stringless when young.

  • Stringless pods
  • Great flavor
  • Vines grow 5-7 feet

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Steaming
  • Roasting
  • Canning
  • Freezing

When preparing your snap beans, clean off the ends and wash before lightly braising them with garlic and tossing with bacon. You can also add them to salads or serve them with dip or hummus as an appetizer.

Try using them for spicy refrigerator pickled beans or canning them in the summer for a winter treat. Their uniform, straight pods make for easing packing in canning jars.

Kentucky Wonder is a Great Pole Bean

by

I have been saving these seeds for thirty years. I got the original seeds from a 90 years old neighbor. The seeds have good germination even after a year or two of not planting. Plants climb to about 6 feet. Pick when young as they have strings as they age. Breeds true from seed. Japanese beetles like them so hand pick if you get this problem.
