Item Details

An historic variety originally introduced in the 1840s, this heirloom strain is from the family of Robert Woodbridge brought to Seed Savers Exchange by Ben Gabel and Kate McEvoy. Robert’s grandmother got the seed “from the head gardener at a big country house during the war” and grew it in her garden in the village of Pickworth, Lincolnshire, England. A traditional tall pea that reaches heights of 10 feet—a great return for a small space. Eight to ten peas per pod.

Recipe

Peas can be eaten fresh and tossed with mixed greens or added to stir-fries.

Try roasting your peas and dipping the pods in a peanut-sesame dipping sauce. You can also roast them with potatoes and carrots and toss with olive oil, garlic, and herbs.

Fresh peas are an excellent addition to pasta in cream sauce with asparagus and mushrooms. Peas pair well with mint, feta or goat cheese, toasted nuts, and parmesan.

Fresh peas can be used in spring soups with watercress, mint, asparagus, or parsley.

Tall plants produced easily

by

These peas were a hit. They were easy growers and produced well. The flavor was excellent and I really enjoyed cooking with them. Because it is very windy here in Oklahoma City, zone 7a, they needed to be tied to the trellis at a few points, but I enjoyed how tall they grew. They topped out at around 6 feet, but I got them in the ground late. I think they would easily go taller had I started them sooner. We saved about 30 seeds to plant in the fall. I am excited to grow them again soon!

Buy the big bag, these are amazing!

Prolific, peas by the bucket full, they were so good we just ate all of them fresh, huge hit with our kids. Grows exceptionally well even in part shade. Climbed 10ft in our Seattle yard garden.

These are amazing! They grew in the awful heat of SC. They are prolific and sweet. Perfect peas.
