The Story of Tarahumara
This variety is thought to be orginally adapted from Canadian Mennonite varieties and later adopted by the Tarahumara tribe.
Sunflowers are native to North and South America. They are cultivated for both ornamental reasons and as a food crop in some regions.
During their growth sunflowers exhibit heliotropism, or the tendency to tilt during the day to face the sun. This trait normally subsides after the flower heads bloom at which point they usually face east.
The sunflower is the state flower of Kansas and the national flower of Ukraine. Sunflowers are one of the most popular subjects in the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh and have been associated with green ideology in more recent times.
