You can direct seed melons in your garden or start plants indoors 2-3 weeks before your last frost to give them a head start. Wait until all danger of frost is gone before planting them outdoors in either rows 4-6 feet apart or hills. Seeds should be planted 1 inch deep and if you are planting in hills, place 6-8 seeds per hill. You will want to thin the seedlings to 3-4 plants as they grow. Melon seeds will germinate in 4-10 day and it will take 85-95 days for the fruit to mature. As a rock melon, this variety will not slip from the vine when ripe.
There are about 800 seeds in an ounce of Prescott Fond melon.
