Item Details

The elongated 5-6" roots of this Danish variety resemble a carrot in shape, which allows gardeners to plant its seeds closer together than globe-shaped beet varieties. The edible roots can be sliced into uniform round slices and have an enticing fine-grained texture. Additionally, this easy-to peel beet has sweet dark-red flesh that’s free from rings, making this variety an excellent choice for pickling, baking, roasting, and steaming.

Our Favorite Beet of All Times!

by

I've grown Cylindra beets for many years and totally love the taste, ability to harvest and eat the total plant and the shape that allows for closer planting in limited space. In the Pacific NW, leaf borers love my beet greens as much as I do but I have found that a wire frame over them covered with cheesecloth keeps all the bugs at bay and my leaf crop is flawless. The beets are the best tasting I've found, the skins slip off very easily after steaming till tender and the sweetness is unbeatable. I plan to leave some in-ground this winter under mulch to see if we can harvest throughout the winter.

An honest gardeners opinion

by

First used these seeds back in 2015 (here in West Virginia). Plant every year since (2 crops in 8ft x 4ft raised beds). Great germinators and very easy to grow in well prepared soil. Easy to peel and slice. Convenient to prep for mason jars with great storage and taste or use as regular sides for salads. I will dehrdrate the leaves this growing season then grate to powder and store. A good quality beet with low maintenance in a busy garden .

Space and time saver

We’ve grown this beet for 3 years now and it’s our favorite for three main reasons: closer planting, dramatically easier processing, and the taste of beet and greens is as good as regular shaped beets. They can look a little weird, but the time saved processing them in the kitchen is worth it.

Great germination rate, as always with SSE.
