Seed donor Arlie Gray obtained this variety in 1974 from his niece’s husband, Barney Poole of Mississippi. The Poole family had grown this okra in Texas since the early 1900s. In his donation letter, Arlie noted that plants are very bushy and outyield all other okra varieties he has grown.

Abelmoschus esculentus ∙ Full plants reach 5' tall. Slender, slightly curving mature pods reach 1' long. Slightly prickly pods are tender to 6" but are best eaten under 4". Good flavor and texture.
