Item Details

Reliable producer of stunning 4" round fruits with orange skin. Well-balanced flavor. Plants are typically under 36" tall, but benefit from staking. Called the "ultimate love apple" in Amy Goldman's colorful story in The Heirloom Tomato. Introduced to Seed Savers Exchange in 1983 by member Dorothy Beiswenger. Given to her by Betty Englert, whose ancestors brought this variety to western Nebraska in the late 1800s and was often given to newlywed family members and friends.

  • 85-90 days from transplant
  • Organic
  • Determinate - Fruit ripens over a 2 week period
  • Orange round fruits grow to 4 inches
  • Plants grow to 36 inches

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Sauce
  • Roasting
  • Canning
  • Freezing

Store your tomatoes at room temperature. The flavor and texture of tomatoes suffer when the fruit is chilled.

Heirloom tomatoes are bred for their flavor and simple preparation best allows that intense flavor to shine through. Tomatoes can be sliced and drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper or layer slices with basil and mozzarella for a Caprese salad.

Roasted tomatoes have a richer, concentrated flavor.

There are hundreds of salsa recipes to try and most are dramatically improved with the use of heirloom tomatoes. Tomatoes are also the main ingredient in Gazpacho, a cold soup that is perfect for summer.

Growing Instructions

Instructions - Sow seeds indoors ¼" deep. Tomatoes are sensitive to freezing temperatures, so wait to transplant outdoors until the soil is warm. Plant in full sun.

  • Start Indoors: 6 weeks before last frost
  • Germination: 7-14 Days
  • Plant Outdoors: 24-36” Apart
  • Support: Cage, stake, or trellis

Excellent large slicer

by -

My wife and I gave our wedding guests Nebraska Wedding seeds and seedlings when we were married in 2013, and my dad has grown and saved the seeds ever since. This is our favorite BLT tomato, sweet and tangy and meaty.

Great Tasting and Multipurpose Tomato

by

Grew this for the first time last summer and just started my next round of seeds for this year. Great tasting tomato and lends itself to a wide variety of uses, loved it fresh but I also used it yesterday to make homemade tomato sauce! Prolific and provides reliably sized fruit. I would recommend staking at least in my experience as my plants ended up around 5 feet tall by the end of summer.

Versatile and easy

by

LOVE this tomato. It grew well, and was such a versatile tomato. Plus the skin just dissolved when stewed, saving me time when cooking.

Most Successful Variety of the Year

by

Most surprising tomato of the year. Even though these are determinate, they ripen over a longer period than just a couple of weeks. Resisted disease when other types around it did not. Decent sized fruits without being excessive. Not overly watery or seedy. In zone 6A, I'm still picking these at the end of November (no frosts yet). They got a slow start but looked better ever in September and October.

Brilliant Orange Slicer

by

A medium sized slicer and a keeper from our 2022 trials. Disease resistant plant. Tomatoes were brilliant orange, firm, prolific and tasted great. They stayed firm on the plant longer than than others with a long shelf life once harvested. Plant grew to 5' in a 20 gallon pot in a greenhouse. Will grow again.

Nebraska Wedding Tomatoes for this Nebraska gardener!

Love these tomatoes. Have grown them the last 7 years and they never disappoint. Meaty golden orange fruit with a great taste. Good shelf life after picking. Great for BLTs and sauce.
